In May 2025, EEPMON was interviewed on CBC Ottawa to discuss his role as the first-ever Creator in Residence at Library and Archives Canada (LAC).
During the feature, EEPMON highlighted his plans to dive into the archives’ extensive records to explore the history of Chinese-Canadian immigration. Moving beyond “art for art’s sake,” he explained how his residency was deeply inspired by his previous digital mural for the Canadian Museum of History, which focused on the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1923 and aimed to spark intergenerational healing. Driven by what he describes as an artist’s moral obligation to dig deeper into these historically overlooked narratives, EEPMON is using computer code and algorithms to transform highly documented tracking data—such as historic Chinese Immigration (CI) certificates—into powerful, animated generative art pieces.
To share these archival discoveries with the public, EEPMON announced a live demonstration and talk at the downtown Ottawa LAC building in June (Doors Open Ottawa), ahead of a public showcase concluding his residency in October.
