Being featured in Moco’s Flagship Interviews was a significant pivot for EEPMON’s practice. It shifted the conversation from “digital illustration” to “high-end design,” placing his work in a context of functional beauty and technical innovation.

Generative Design & Code: They were among the first to deep-dive into EEPMON’s use of computer programming as a fine-art medium, highlighting the “Intersections” of math and art in his projects for Microsoft.

EEPMON’s relationship with the magazine began at a pivotal moment in 2008 and evolved alongside his practice:

∙ The Global Graduate Showcase (2008): He was honoured to be the international winner of the Computer Arts Graduate competition, receiving the “Excellence Award” for Illustration. This award served as the launchpad for his professional career, validating his unique intersection of computer science and traditional composition on a global stage.

∙ Professional Commissions (2009): Following the award, EEPMON was commissioned by the editors of Issue #158 to create a custom illustration piece and provide an in-depth interview. This was a transition from “emerging talent” to “professional peer” within the global design community.

∙ The SVA Residency & “Image of the Day” (2013): Later in EEPMON’s career, the magazine continued to track his evolution, featuring his work from the School of Visual Arts (SVA) residency and highlighting his digital-meets-analogue process in their “Image of the Day” and March 2013 features.

The JoshSpear Era: A Digital Milestone

From 2008 to 2011, my work was a recurring fixture on JoshSpear.com, which at the time was the world’s premier authority on trend-spotting and global design culture. In an era before the “infinite scroll” of social media, JoshSpear was the ultimate curator—the digital gateway that connected the creative scenes of New York, London, and Tokyo.

Being featured regularly on the site—and sitting down for their prestigious SpearTalks interview series—placed me at the centre of a global conversation about the intersection of art, code, and commerce.

This period marked several pivotal turns in my career:

Global Synergy: The site tracked my early high-profile collaborations with Xbox 360, MINI, and Microsoft, signalling the shift of digital art into the luxury and tech sectors.

The Tokyo Connection: JoshSpear documented my expansion into Japan, from my installations at the Yamaha Ginza building to creative projects for Dentsu and Yahoo!.

Cultural Impact: They chronicled my transition from commercial illustration to social contribution, specifically through my work with PARCO ART for the Love for Nippon exhibition in Tokyo following the 2011 disaster.

For me, the JoshSpear features were more than just press; they were a definitive seal of approval from the “cool hunters” of the time.
