The Gemini Awards 25th Anniversary: Gemini Nightsback up
Title: Gemini Nights - A Citylights inspired piece by eepmon
Size:
11x17in (27.94x43.18 cm)
45.3x70in (115.06x177.8 cm)
In collaboration with Switch United, a multidisciplinary firm based out in Vancouver, Canada, we collaborated together to concieve the visual branding and theme for this year's Gemini Awards. Marking their 25th year (silver year) is a significant milestone for the Gemini's so our challenge is to emphasize the 25th anniversary.
The vision: Switch United asked me to create the vision of how 25 years can be visualized into some physical representation. Immediately we all felt that my Citylights series was the perfect starting point for this.
Using current/past show names and past Gemini Award covers, I created a glowing and vibrant city feel. There is something nostalgic about this piece that grabs your attention and where you want to be part of this glowing collective. At the same time, it is futuristic, digital and contemporary. Individually they are like varying sizes of LCD screens and when they are viewed from the distance, it resembles a silvery/red glowing crystal shadelier.
Gemini Nights will brand the event. From websites, digital media and television to print and large scale installations.
It's really a great conversation piece where people can really look around and find the show names and titles spanning 25 years of Canadian television!

Fleming Design Flash Siteback up

Working closely with the team at Switch Interactive, eepmon was given the task to program/code Fleming Design's corporate Flash website. All layout and designs were provided by Fleming Design.
The Flash site is Object Oriented programmed keeping modularity in mind and for future extensibility. Data content is driven by back-end technologies such as PHP and MySQL.
eepmon Flash V3back up

Case Study: Flash site designed/coded back in 2008. Programmed in ActionScript 2.0, eepmon V3 was coded entirely in an Object Oriented framework leveraging XML, AMFPHP, MySQL to dynamically populate content.
Explanation behind the scenes: Entire site is dynamic and the theme and gradient backgrounds change depending on the time of day (Easter egg at 3am). Weather data is taken in and affects the type of illustrations that fly through the background. There is a XML fed playlist and with official permission, plays samples from electronic artist Susumu Yokota.
About the Blog: The goal was to create a visually appealing and immersive blog versus the traditional page clicking. Each panel represents a month, and a total of 12 months that resembles like a 12 hour clock. Scrolling with the mouse-wheel or clicking on each month will bring into focus. Click again and the user can view the entries for that specific month. There is an 'Archives' button that will reveal the year nodes allowing the user to select a year to enter and view that year's blog entries.
About the Gallery: Inspired by the iTune's cover flow concept. Prior to PaperVision3D and other 3rd party 3D libraries, an implementation of a sort-of-hack or work around to make the illusion of cover flow was created. The result was successful.
This site was nominated finalist for FITC2007 Self-Promotional.
